The successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon’s South Pole was a historic moment for India. Behind this monumental achievement are the brilliant minds of scientists and engineers. One such inspiring figure is Y Bishal Singha, a young scientist who is fast becoming a youth icon for his remarkable contribution to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

Y Bishal Singha is a 28-year-old, young scientist hailing from Silchar, Assam. An IIT Guwahati graduate, Bishal Singha, played an important role in leading the nation towards the remarkable milestones in space science.

Y Bishal Singha: Humble Beginnings to Academic Excellence

Y Bishal Singha

A village boy, Y Bishal Singha, hails from Ramnagar Tuko, Silchar. Bishal, an alumnus of Silchar Collegiate School, passed his matriculation in 2013. He later studied at Gurukul Grammar Senior Secondary School in Guwahati and completed his Higher Secondary in 2015.

During his higher secondary days, he joined SPM & Lalan’s Coaching for engineering. He was SPM & Lalan’s Coaching’s former student, batch 2013-15 (2-year classroom program). His mentors recognised him as a very hard-working and goal-focused student. In 2015, Y Bishal Singha secured AIR – 1818 (Gen) in JEE-Advanced. His academic prowess earned him a place at IIT Guwahati, where he pursued mechanical engineering and graduated in June 2019.

During his seventh semester at IIT Guwahati, he was selected by the Space Research Organisation. He joined the ISRO a month later after he graduated. This is when his career journey took an inspiring turn. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Thermal Management of Space Electronics from IIT Kharagpur.

Career, Vision, and Contributions

Hailing from a humble village in Silchar, Y Bishal Singha carries dreams far bigger than his surroundings. Since childhood, he has envisioned contributing to India’s journey in space, science, and national progress, a dream that continues to shape his purpose till today.

From his early days as a curious engineering mind to his role as a scientist at ISRO, Bishal Singha’s career is a story of steady ascent, relentless learning, and deep technical mastery. His journey began through prestigious research internships at IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, and IIT Guwahati, where he explored everything from rover motion-planning algorithms to inverse heat transfer and CFD modelling—building a strong research foundation across India’s top institutes.

In 2019, Bishal entered the nation’s premier space agency, ISRO, as Scientist/Engineer–SC, contributing four transformational years to India’s space technology ecosystem. His expertise, consistency, and problem-solving excellence propelled him to the role of Scientist/Engineer–SD in 2023, marking a significant milestone in his scientific career. Today, with over six years at ISRO, Bishal continues to push the boundaries of engineering innovation, embodying the spirit of India’s new-age space growth story.

Y Bishal Singha’s beautiful journey shows the rise of a young mind with cosmic ambitions. The little kid who used to be awed by the big glowing moon in the night sky today marked his own legacy on it, said Bishal in one of his interviews with SPM & Lalan’s Coaching.

His academic journey demonstrates a clear path of focus and excellence:

A Name to Remember for Chandrayaan-3 Success

Y Bishal Singha’s dream of becoming an ISRO scientist materialised just a month after his graduation. He was selected for ISRO during a campus placement drive in his seventh semester at IIT Guwahati and joined the organisation in July 2019.

He currently serves as a Thermal Systems Engineer at ISRO. For the Chandrayaan-3 mission, he was a key member of the thermal control team. A member of ISRO’s thermal control team, Singha’s remarkable expertise played a significant role in ensuring the mission’s success. The mission’s success placed India among the elite group of nations to achieve a successful soft landing on the Moon and the first to land near its South Pole.

Congratulating Y Bishal Singha on his success, Lalan Kumar, from SPM & Lalan’s Coaching, expressed his elation, stating, “Bishal was a student of our first batch of Lalan’s. Today, India is the only country to have soft landed on the South Pole of the Moon. I am so happy and proud that our student, Bishal, was a part of this success and helped India shine on the Moon.

From Rural Roots to Space Achievement

Bishal Singha’s journey- from a village upbringing in Assam to contributing to a historic space mission- is a powerful source of inspiration for countless young people. His dedication and achievement highlight the value of hard work, a focused vision, and the immense potential within the nation’s youth to propel India’s progress to new heights in science and technology. He embodies the spirit of a true national achiever, making him a deserving candidate for the title of a youth icon in the making.

He grew up under open skies, tracing constellations and imagining a future where he would contribute to India’s journey in science and space. What started as a child’s fascination has evolved into a relentless mission. His journey began long ago – and today, his dream burns with unstoppable brilliance.
