Why Was NEET UG 2026 Re-Conducted?

The original NEET UG 2026 exam, held on 3rd May 2026, was cancelled by the NTA after central investigating agencies flagged a question-paper leak. Following the Government of India’s approval, the NTA scheduled a fresh Re-NEET 2026 exam for 21st June 2026. Candidates who had already registered and paid the fee for the May exam were not required to register again, and their examination fee was refunded, with new admit cards and city-intimation slips issued for the re-exam.

Security at re-exam centres was significantly tightened, and authorities also restricted certain messaging platforms in the run-up to the exam to curb the circulation of fake paper-leak rumours. The Supreme Court declined to entertain last-minute pleas seeking a further postponement, allowing the re-examination to proceed as scheduled.

Re-NEET 2026 Exam Pattern

The Re-NEET UG 2026 question paper followed the same pattern as the original NEET exam, with a few extra minutes added to the exam duration as a precautionary measure:

  • Total Questions: 180 multiple-choice questions across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany + Zoology).
  • Section-Wise Split: Physics – 45 questions, Chemistry – 45 questions, Biology – 90 questions.
  • Total Marks: 720 marks (4 marks per correct answer).
  • Negative Marking: 1 mark deducted for every incorrect response; no marks deducted for unattempted questions.
  • Duration: 3 hours 15 minutes (195 minutes), 15 minutes longer than the regular NEET duration.
  • Medium: Conducted in English, Hindi, and several regional languages as opted by candidates.

Re-NEET 2026 Question Paper – Code-Wise Sets

Like every NEET cycle, the Re-NEET UG 2026 question paper was printed in multiple codes/sets (such as 50, 60, 70, and 80 series) to maintain exam integrity across crowded centres. Each code carries the same 180 questions but in a different sequence, which is why candidates must match their specific booklet code with the corresponding answer key rather than a generic one. Coaching institutes typically release memory-based question papers and code-wise solutions within hours of the exam, while NTA’s own scanned question paper and response sheets follow a few days later on the official portal.

Re-NEET 2026 Paper Analysis (21st June) – Section-Wise Review

Based on feedback shared by students immediately after the exam, the overall Re-NEET 2026 paper was rated moderate, and somewhat tougher than the cancelled 3rd May paper:

  • Physics: Rated the toughest of the three sections — lengthy, concept-heavy, and time-consuming, with several numerical-based questions that needed close to 2–3 minutes each.
  • Chemistry: Considered moderate, with a fairly balanced mix of Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry questions, largely NCERT-based.
  • Biology: Reported as the most scoring and comfortable section, with questions drawn mainly from Genetics, Plant Physiology, Reproduction, Human Physiology, and Ecology.

Because Physics was the most time-consuming section, subject experts believe it will play the biggest role in deciding this year’s Re-NEET cutoff. Many candidates also mentioned that the paper, while doable, left limited time to revisit marked questions before the exam concluded.

Re-NEET Answer Key (UG) 2026 – Code 70

Below is the unofficial Re-NEET (UG) 2026 answer key for Code-70, released by SPM & Lalan’s Coaching for Success shortly after the 21st June exam. Candidates who attempted Code-70 can match their OMR responses against this key to estimate their probable score before the NTA releases the official provisional answer key.

Note: Question 22 has been marked with two acceptable options (3, 4) and Question 40 has been treated as a Bonus question (full marks to all candidates) by SPM & Lalan’s Coaching for Success in this Code-70 key. This may differ from NTA’s final official answer key, so candidates should treat this as an estimate only.

How to Calculate Your Probable Score Using the Re-NEET 2026 Answer Key

Once you have matched your responses with the Code-70 answer key above, use the official NEET marking scheme to estimate your score:

  • Add 4 marks for every question you answered correctly.
  • Subtract 1 mark for every question you answered incorrectly.
  • Award 0 marks for questions left unattempted.
  • For Question 40 (Bonus), add 4 marks regardless of whether you attempted it.
  • For Question 22, award 4 marks if you marked either option 3 or option 4.

Formula: Probable Score = (Correct Answers × 4) − (Incorrect Answers × 1) + Bonus Marks

Re-NEET Answer Key (Official), Objection Window & Result Date

The NTA is expected to release the official provisional Re-NEET 2026 answer key on neet.nta.nic.in within a few days of the exam, along with scanned OMR response sheets. Candidates will then get a short window to raise objections against any answer they believe is incorrect, usually by paying a nominal fee per challenged question. Based on past NEET cycles, the final result is generally declared within four to five weeks of the exam, which places the Re-NEET 2026 result in the latter half of July 2026, though the exact date will be confirmed only through an official NTA notice.

Re-NEET 2026 Result & Counselling Timeline

Once the Re-NEET (UG) 2026 result and scorecards are out, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will conduct centralised counselling for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats, while respective state authorities will manage the 85% state-quota seats. The full counselling process — covering MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS, BSMS, and BHMS admissions — typically runs across multiple rounds from late July/August through to November or December, depending on seat availability and vacancies in each round.
